Honda Cars Philippines, Inc.'s facelifted Mobilio takes on a fresh look to challenge its rivals in the Philippines. It now sports a new front grille, LED guide type position lights, and 15-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The top-of-the-line RS variant is made sportier with a gloss black grille and RS designed 15-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The Mobilio is a 7-seater MPV that's loosely based on the Brio's platform. Inside, a blue illuminated instrument cluster can be seen for the Mobilio V CVT and E MT variants, while the RS gets an orange back-lit panel. Black fabric seats, silver trim, and a 7-inch touchscreen head unit with Bluetooth connectivity are available for V and RS variants. The facelifted Mobilio comes with choices of two standard colors: Lunar Silver Metallic or Crystal Black Pearl. It also has several exclusive colors such as Phoenix Orange Pearl and White Orchid Pearl (RS Navi), Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic (RS Navi and V CVT), and Taffeta White (V and E).
The Honda Mobilio was introduced into the Philippine market in May of 2015. The vehicle serves as the Japanese automaker’s entry into the small MPV segment of the market. It currently comes in three variant models available in the country. The vehicle shares the same engine as the Honda City and the same design language as its smaller counterparts the Brio and the Brio Amaze. The small MPV got a facelift in 2016 featuring redesigned headlamps, hood, and front grille.
The Honda Mobilio is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine. The powerplant produces 118hp and 145 Nm of torque. The engine can either be had with a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT as its only option. The Mobilio comes in a front-engine front-wheel-drive layout. The front suspension consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam suspension at the rear. Stopping power comes from disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
The Honda Mobilio even with its small-displacement engine can get the small MPV up to speed quite easily. For the CVT variants, the transmission does its job well to give you the right amount of torque when needed. Even when fully loaded the vehicle still delivers. Where it struggles, however, is on uphill segments of road. The small MPV’s steering is light and tactile which makes tackling tight city corners a breeze. At higher speeds, however, the steering will start to feel a bit heavier, which isn’t a bad thing as it results in a more stable and composed feel on the highway.
The Honda Mobilio for infotainment can either feature a 7-inch touchscreen display or a 1DIN head unit. The 7-inch head unit is capable of Bluetooth, USB, and Aux connection. For select variants, a reverse camera is also available along with Navigation. Sound is sent through a two-speaker system for the lower variants, while the RS variant gets four. Climate controls come in the form of manual dials with a digital display.
The Mobilio on the exterior features multi-reflector halogen headlights, fender-mounted side turn signal lights, bulb type tail lamps, and an LED high-mount stop lamp. The door handles of the small MPV will either be black or will match with the body color depending on the variant. The same goes for the door mirror color. The front grille comes in chrome or in black depending on the variant.
The Honda Mobilio features a predominantly black interior with gray headliner. The all-black theme is carried out across the variant range with the exception of the RS variant which has red and black themed seat designs. The only seating material available for the small MPV is cloth as there is no leather option.
What you might like about the Honda Mobilio is that there is a generous spread of cup holders, even the last row gets them. Another feature that you might appreciate in the vehicle is its flexible seat configuration and ample space. It even has commendable fuel consumption figures.
What you might not like about the Mobilio is that it has no daytime running lights. It also does not have cruise control which is a useful feature for those who plan to take the vehicle out of town. The airconditioning also needs improvement.
