The Tiggo 2 is a small crossover that comes from Chery Auto Philippines. It's the most affordable model in the lineup and is offered in a total of two variants, one with a manual, and another with an automatic transmission. The crossover is aimed at other offerings in the market with naturally aspirated engines, high ground clearance, and a price that is easy to reach.
Launch
The Chery brand relaunched in the Philippines with 4 nameplates composing the lineup. Among these vehicles was the Tiggo 2 small crossover. The debut was made on November 27, 2019, and marked a new chapter for the Chinese brand in the country. The small crossover is currently available with transmission options, the first is a 5-speed manual and the second is a 4-speed automatic.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
Because it is a crossover, the Tiggo 2 has a unibody chassis that allows for sedan-like ride and handling. Equipped with MacPherson struts in the front, and a torsion beam in the rear, the setup is similar to common subcompact sedans and hatchbacks on the road today. It rolls on a set of 16-inch wheels and stands tall on 186 mm of ground clearance. A set of disc brakes are found all around, the fronts being a ventilated pair, and the rear being a solid pair.
The engine that Chery has opted to place into the Tiggo 2 is a 1.5L with variable valve timing (VVT). The motor is naturally aspirated and Euro 5 emissions compliant. It produces a total of 106 hp and 135 Nm of torque. The transmission is either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed traditional automatic that sends power from the engine to the front wheels.
Driving Performance
The Tiggo 2 with its gasoline engine promises good performance with light handling and compact dimensions. Steering is relatively light for its size. Navigating through tighter streets is much easier thanks to the small size of the Tiggo 2. Driving in traffic is made easy by the crossover's automatic transmission which promises good shifting and smooth performance.
Technology Features
The Chery Tiggo 2 comes with either a regular radio for the MT variant or an 8-inch HD capacity touch infotainment system that doubles as your reverse camera on the automatic variant. The entertainment system comes with Bluetooth connectivity as well as a USB port. For added convenience, the crossover comes with cruise control as standard for both variants making long highway drives easier to manage. Other features include rear parking sensors, which is present on all variants, a remote key with remote unlock, power side mirrors DRLs standard on all trims.
Exterior
On the outside, the Chery Tiggo 2 comes with a hexagonal grille flanked on either side by halogen headlamps. The small crossover rides on 16-inch wheels giving it 186mm of ground clearance, ideal for those who are worried about floods during the rainy season. At the rear, the Tiggo 2 also features halogen-based tail lamps that are connected by one long silver strip adding a further accent to the rear. It also comes with body moulding giving the vehicle a tall yet athletic look ideal for those who want an agile looking crossover for the city.
Interior
On the interior, the Chery Tiggo 2 comes with a black and gray themed interior. Leather seats are present in the vehicle and for both variants. For added convenience, the driver and front passenger both get 6-way manual adjustability for their seats, it also comes with automatic climate control with electronic adjustability.
